The Beautiful Dirty

Figured this would be a good Monday post...I'm feeling you Kate. Ha, but seriously this Ellen von Unwerth shoot is quirky, intimate, a little more commercial looking than some of her grainier images. But it's reminiscent of her show at Staley Wise Gallery entitled Revenge. There she pushed the erotic themes just a little bit further... the narrative being a Baroness invites three lovely ladies to her country estate for a weekend of sadomasochistic excess.

Annie's Looking Glass...

Oh, Vogue! Alice in Wonderland according  to Annie Leibovitz in Vogue means doe-eyed Natalia Vodianova as Alice and casting the designers as her co-characters. My favorite would have to be Galliano as the Queen of Hearts.

Just some of the things I was listening to as I packed up my room to move to Brooklyn today in the gloomy weather. So, it's a bit maudlin, but I fault the weather and transition periods. 

Must-Have Chambray Playsuit

My friends have mocked me about how few colors there are in my wardrobe ever since I got back from being abroad in Paris. Let's just say my host-mom forced me to change my shirt when I came out wearing a Miami inspired teal-blue v-neck saying how garish I looked, c'est trop-tape-à-l'œil. Ah, well, you can't win 'em all. So this fall I thought I'd add in some maroons, mauves. It's a color that doesn't stray that far from grey, but it'll have to do. The little collection consists of: Grey Chambray Playsuit, Bottega Vaneta San Marco Karung Leather  Bag,  Decocolico Mary Jane Pumps, Bottega Veneta Corseted Silk Dress, DKNY Lanila patent ankle boots, and a Balenciaga Cocktail dress.

VF Cate Blanchett Retrospective

This woman is an enigmatic shape-shifter. I remember seeing her in I'm Not There as a facet of Bob Dylan's persona and she was so intriguing to watch as a man. Her femininity still undeniable, but totally transformed. And years ago, she played the role of real-life Irish journalist Veronica Guerin and she seemed so realistically old/ mature to me. And yet she's perfectly girlish and soft in Benjamin Button. She has babies, co-artistic directs a theater, and goooooodness, she never stops working. Look at her imdb. Ok, Cate-love-rant over. 

Vanity Fair is the home of editorial fashion meets celebrity. The first two photos are from a 1999 Annie Leibovitz shoot, and the last three are from 10 years plus. Annie again. Cate hasn't aged, but I think Leibovitz is able to capture her increased aura of confidence as a performer.

Does the haircut come with the jacket?

Everything about these two looks is so edgy and spot on. I've been wondering if it were time to get a haircut and these photos are giving me hair-envy. Also, I've been denying myself thus far, but I think this fall I'm going to have (ha, ha have) to get a boss leather jacket. Preferably diagonally cut. Though this crystal embellished Jitrois number is also food for thought...
