Riekel at H&M

This Saturday H&M releases its new line of lingerie, having teamed up with Soniya Riekel, a rock star french designer who started her first boutique the year of the student uprising, 1968. While she aims to be a bit more anti-fashion in her clothing, her lingerie is appropriately nostalgic and sweet. The images below should evoke what we have to look forward to wiht Soniya's influence at H&M.

Over-the-knee boots?

This is for my darling girl, Brit. Gala features a go-to guide on how to pull off the over the knee boots if you dare. I am personally not sold on it, because without the proper accoutrements you can look like a pirate or prostitute a la miss roberts, but it's a look that's entering fashion editorials with full force. So go there if you dare... (just avoid the pirate cuff).

On another note, I spent all day cooking pies, stuffing, prepping pop overs, cabbage salad, sweet potato gratin...Thanksgiving is my all time favorite holiday to be at home with my family and cooking marvelous foods. I'm going to make caramel to add to bourbon for a cocktail of my own design. Yum, yum, yummmm. Thank goodness for such sweet days.

Gutsyyyy

Boo George's spread is in-yo-face! He makes you look for the pretty in this grunge. I'm in this phase where I'm liking the boss leather jackets, bold boots, and lots of black. But it is beautiful...

Vote for ME! (please)

Everything is online these days so I'm here to play the game. Game on! Showbizzle is a paying webisode and they've asked us to submit one of their pre-written monologues online and get your fans to vote you to the top. So fans, vote!

Clay Pigeon by Milos Tomic

Found this thanks to the director of the current student film I'm doing! I love stop-motion at the moment. Apparently, so does Wes Anderson now that he got to make Fantastic Mr. Fox. Serves to his detail-obsessed, controlling (in a legitimate/good way for a director) nature.

Outfit luvvv

I love this outfit, plain and simple. Edgy, modern grunge meets lascivious 40s pin-up. I think I need to get my hands on Clinique's Parisian Red lip color and a bedazzled bustier. Actually saw one today! when I stopped by the LF in Soho. Thank you, Betty!

Current List of Loves

  • Long phone calls to loved ones
  • Gold jewelry
  • Hanes V-Neck Tees: Low budge...these are a forever love.

Glorious Gloria

So this week I helped my employer host a fundraiser for Ms. Foundation and celebrate Gloria Steinem's 75th birthday at the same time! The woman is still fierce as ever and makes feminism oh so pretty. What's so drawing about her, though, is that she relates to the personal struggles of every person. She mentioned her own childhood in Toledo where she thought show business would be her ticket out of a small town. She likened her learning to tap dance as young boys in low-income, black families pursuing sports as their means of breaking out of poverty. When it's the only public arena you see people who look like you being successful and different, it's what you go after as well. She even showed us her tap dance...

Steinem also admitted that she's been having little thoughts about death lately. Standing at her sink, aligning the duties of the day in her head, she suddenly stopped and thought that Death, big D, would interrupt all the list-making. Big and small tasks. And she laughed. So here's to Gloria and to hopefully living a life as full of adventure and change as hers!

Clara Rockmore

I have been feeling utterly uncreative and exhausted lately. Seeing as I've lumped a full-time schleppy job on top of the whole acting thing. But this is beautiful. This woman was the best at this bizarre instrument and did a lot for old movie soundtracks...

Here's to the ol' swan song...

BIG LOVE, get serious

Dazed and Confused Wild Things

I like the black and white photos of this series better. The off-beatness and animal textures read better. Fur, leather and feathers are everywhere, what is a lil' vegetarian to do? Buy vegan leather at Forev 21 and pretend it's not because you can't afford the real thing...

Wistful and Woody

To luxuriate in the fields in a beautiful outfit. Hmm, I think I need to get out of this city for a bit. I love the last photo of this Rony Shram sequence. Fashion photogs are most successful when they captivate a certain curiosity the viewer has for the subject, whether it's the piece, the model, or the atmosphere. Nicely done, Rony.

Rent the Runway, Yo!

My beauteous friend Alex just emailed me about this site, Rent the Runway. I think I might have to splurge for some upcoming events. For $150, I can sport this soooo chic pretty, the Sunset Ombre dress by Hervé Léger. Especially, New Years. (They have same day delivery for NY!!!)

Bag Hunt Finished (for now)

Forever 21's new bag...seen it many times today. After an audition for a NYU student film, I hoped over to the Union square store and saw it and thought the fates want me to have ittt.  I saw this bag on Gala's blog and this fancily dressed brunette in a thrift store had it. And before knowing where it had come from, I thought that her bag looked so great and functional. Having just enough personality to spice up an outfit without being the main event.

Recuperation cont.

And listen to this:

And post about beautiful things throughout the day. Ahh, now that's much better.

Recuperation

I just had a terrible experience temping for some wretched beings who didn't realize temps have feelings too. So to recup, I've decided to make this:

Ysé

I love delicate, thin jewelry. It's understated, elegant. Ysé has such perfect examples. I'd get the necklace with the petite vélos for my step mom in a heart beat because she's a huge fan of the tour de france.

Galliano Platforms on Cotillard

This is from an event a while ago, but these Galliano platforms are incredible. And the simplicity of the Dior dress...c'est parfait.

Kudos, GG...

Yikes, I admit it. I've been thinking about this look ever since I watched the episode a week ago. I want the pants and heels. I'll stop at the heels and hair, but whoever is putting Jenny's look together these days is spot on. These harem pants at Shopbop kind of do the trick, but not really... I'll keep looking.

Devon does Rita Hayworth

Sebastian Kim captures Devon Aoki's innocence-meets-old-hollywood-seduction. Not sure if that's a category, but all the satins and lace remind me of 1950s screen siren beauty. I was so inspired by this editorial I couldn't help but hunt down a few key items that I now need.
